2012 Kick-Off

I wish a happy new year 2012 to everyone! I took a few days off between the years and now I'm ready to start into what's promising to become a VERY interesting year for the Wormworld Saga. There will be a lot more new content for you in 2012 and we all will find out if this whole thing is going to work out for me over the long term.

The year definitely started very encouraging for the Wormworld Saga. The launch of Chapter 2 was received very well in the online community. Between Christmas and New Year the website was visited over 100,000 times and the overall feedback from the readers was very positive. There are lots of new fans that joined the blog and the Facebook fan page and I want to welcome you all. I promise you that you are in for a ride!

I will start the year with some administrative and editorial tasks and then I will directly start my work on Chapter 3. As always I will keep you updated on my progress and tease you with preview images. Chapter 3 is scheduled for a March/April release. I have to keep the release date that loose because there will be new characters introduced to the story, I'll have to create a lot more concept artwork than for the preceding chapters, and I'm not totally sure how much time that will take.

The next days should also see some news on the Android version of the Wormworld Saga App and the Chapter 2 release inside the app. The time around Christmas really isn't the best time for having to cope with unforeseen problems and I'm really sorry that we weren't able to deliver Chapter 2 inside the app on time. As soon as things are moving forward there, you'll be the first to know.

Alright, there's a lot of work ahead - it's time to get my hands dirty!

  1. I gotta be honest with u, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't doubting u.
I love the Worm World Saga and have followed it for so long since before the first chapter, its one of those stories that have inspired me so much in its story alone with the art being even more so a tremendous inspiration. But I fear if this becomes something that needs waiting for so long between chapters that...I admit I might forget about it or I'll wait so long I'll become even less and less interested in it, which is something that sort of scares me.

So I ask u this, and with no disrespect if it might sound like it but I think u should get help with the project. Don't give it to some fat cats company who would probably just ruin it but get other artist that can help u with this project, that can help u achieve being able to share this great piece of art and story to other without them having to wait months or even a year for something this great.
    Consider it...

  2. I appreciate that you care about the project and I'm among the people that wish to have new chapters as fast as possible. I consider 3 months of production time for each chapter to be a great improvement over the 12 months that we were used to wait for up to this point. Anything faster than that would call for splitting up the work between different artists and to be very honest with you, right now I don't even know if I will make enough money on the project to support myself this year. So, without disrespecting the wonderful help from the translators and my voluntary layout assistant, this is going to be a one-man-show for the time being. And if this should not work out because of the impatience of the internet community (in which I don't yet believe btw), I would simply consider the internet to not be the right means for me to publish my story. We shall see!

  3. Obviously, the original Annonymous has never produced anything creative in their lives otherwise they would not make such a ridulous comment... Stay true to your creativity and don't be influenced by impatient idiots!

  4. Daniel: I just posted on my blog (in Spanish) about WW Saga. I'd been waiting for Chapter 2 to do it.

As someone who waited years for Harry Potter books, Inheritance Cycle books, Imaginarium Geographica books, A Song of Ice and Fire books, and the Wheel of Time books, I have something to say:

There _is_ a lot of patience out there for awesome works of art. WormWorld Saga is an awesome work of art. Some of the people who read the first chapter will not read the second one till next year (I _am_ aware it's 2012 already), while some will not see them for a couple of years.

But the community will grow, and people will subscribe to different means of knowing when there's a new issue out there, so even if they forget for a while (I forgot for a while around last Summer, which was awesome because I got to read Chapter 1 and enjoy it thoroughly again), whenever they sniff a new publication, they'll come running, and spread the word.

Be brave, carry on, do what you need to do, and I really hope you can get the money you need to sustain your growing family out of this.

If I may make a recommendation: Side with the topatoco guys and sell shirts. It _will_ help you with funds the same way it's helped others. I believe you can also sell other merch with them (for instance, mugs).

I'd not buy a print, but I will buy a shirt (or three) as soon as you have them out.

  6. Yay! I'm really exited for the project, it's one of the few webcomics that really utilizes the web format to it's advantage. That having been said I think this story would lend itself well to animation as well, though that may be a little far reaching. Also on that note March/April is way sooner than I had been expecting, nice surprise. An approximate three month production is admirable for a one man ensemble.

And Damian, I know it was an innocent typo but that typo nearly had me spray cola all over my new keyboard! XD Plus it's like you're predicting the cheap knock-off merchandise. It'd be great if Wormworld Saga got to be that popular, almost enough to ignore the infringement.

Also, that frame accurately represents my feelings of the New Year. I'd only just used to the idea of it being 2011.

  7. Daniel, keep working as you are. You are creating a webcomic of a fantastic quality, completely suited to the internet. People don't get bored because of app content, online videos, and frequent posts on this blog with progress updates. 3 or 4 chapters a year is absolutely fine, and I hope you get enough support. Can't wait to see the chapter 2 bonus content.

  10. Daniel, you are a true inspiration to me. I have been struggling to dedicate some time to the creation of my own graphic novel and viewing your work has motivated me so much to continue doing what I do. It's long hard work and it takes ages as it took you to do the first book, but when I see grand works like this one you have here, I am reminded of the great rewards that lay ahead of me. I bought the iPad version of your first Chapter which has the making off and all the other great features, and I can't wait to get the second chapter for my iPad as well.

Any idea on when it will be out for iPad? I would proudly spend my money again on your wonderful achievements. :)

Either ways, best of luck with your work and I wish you all the best for now.

  11. David,
I know the importance of inspiration very well and I'm happy to hear that I'm able to inspire you with my work.

I should be able to announce the release of Chapter 2 inside the app very soon. And from now on we will make sure that the users of the app won't have to wait for the chapters longer than the online readers.

  13. If I may say so; your graphic novel is absolutely stunning. The story is very promising, and it's true, beautiful quality. I can't wait to see where it goes next! Keep up the wonderful work!

  14. You've got a wonderfully captivating and beautiful style, and the story behind it is lots of fun. A friend referred me to this site and I was immediately hooked. Amazing work!

    Looking forward to chapter three.
